Sourou Cycling Club Restarts Activities as Security Improves

Ouagadougou: The Cycling Club resumes its activities following the improvement in the security situation. Thanks to the continued improvement of the security situation in the Sourou province, the Sourou Cycling Club (VCS) relaunched its activities on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in Tougan, through the organization of a men's and women's cycling race, in the presence of several provincial authorities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the club president, Mamadou Koussoub, stated that the club's activities were previously running at a reduced pace due to the security situation in the area. With the efforts of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), the situation has improved. This improvement has allowed the club to relaunch its activities, aiming to better prepare athletes for upcoming national competitions.

The Secretary General of the province, Wendyam Martial Oudraogo, representing the High Commissioner, commended the club's initiative and congratulated the organizers on the event's success. He encouraged continued efforts to make Sourou a national benchmark in cycling. At the conclusion of the competition, Issa Oudraogo in the men's category and Latifatou Drabo in the women's category secured first place, each receiving a new bicycle and a cash prize.

Speaking on behalf of the sponsors, Ali Zerbo, also known as Ali Vis- -Vis, expressed that their support for the initiative reflects a commitment to the youth of Sourou and Burkina Faso. He reaffirmed their intent to continue supporting the Sourou Cycling Club in organizing future activities and promoting cycling within the province.
