Sountong-Nooma Trio Secures Victory at 6th Buayaba Cup in P©tanque


Ouagadougou: The Sountong-Nooma trio clinched the 6th edition of the Buayaba Cup in p©tanque on Sunday evening, triumphing over the Club Wend-Panga trio with a score of 13 to 3, as reported by AIB.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the event took place at the Sinyiri school bowling alley in Ouagadougou, where the Sountong-Nooma team exhibited their skills. Led by team captain Moustapha Bagagnan, the trio impressed the crowd with precise shots and strategic placements. The team, comprising Moustapha Bagagnan, Patrice Tiemtor©, and Alidou Sawadogo, previously won the 5th edition as well, securing victory in just six ends. They quickly took the lead with a score of 5-0 in the first two ends. Despite a brief rally from Wend-Panga, who managed to score 3 points, Sountong-Nooma remained dominant, ultimately winning the trophy, a gold medal, and a prize of 500,000 FCFA. Wend-Panga received the silver medal and 300,000 FCFA as the runners-up.



Marc Poda, president of the Buayaba P©tanque Club and a member of the organizing committee, expressed his satisfaction with the competition’s proceedings. He highlighted the event’s theme, “sport, a factor in community life and social cohesion,” emphasizing its role in uniting participants from across the country and beyond. Poda remarked on the presence of clubs from Togo and Benin, noting the friendly and incident-free nature of the event.



In addition to p©tanque, the competition featured board games and was promoted by former Minister of Sports Mathias Tankoano, who congratulated all contributors to the event’s success. The current Minister of Sports, Youth, and Employment, Roland Somda, sponsored the competition and was represented by Secretary General Lo© Adama Traor©, who affirmed departmental support for such initiatives.



Sports Ambassador Charles Kabor©, represented by advisor Issouf Ouattara, also encouraged participants. The announcement of the 7th edition, expected next year, concluded the event.
