Soungalo Traoré Takes Office as New Director of Education in Sissili.

Leo: The Secretary General of Sissili province, Baowindsida Bingo, officially installed Soungalo Traoré as the new Provincial Director of Preschool, Primary, and Non-Formal Education (DPEPPNF) on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. The installation ceremony took place in Leo, situated in the Center-West region, and was attended by local constituents, parents, colleagues, and both incoming and outgoing directors. In his address, Traoré expressed gratitude to the authorities for entrusting him with this significant role and recognized the challenges that lay ahead in improving education in the province.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Traoré emphasized the necessity of support from all stakeholders in the mission to advance children’s education. His predecessor, Richard Bienvenu Benon, who led the directorate for over three years, has been reassigned to other duties. During the handover, Benon welcomed Traoré and encouraged his former colleagues to extend the same cooperation to the new director. He also off
ered apologies for any lapses during his tenure.

Representatives of the staff and constituted bodies, Haraman Warma and Mimtiri Oualbéogo, acknowledged the achievements under Benon’s leadership. They highlighted the reopening of 133 schools out of 136 that had been closed due to insecurity. Warma noted an improvement in the province’s success rate in the CEP from 56.82% in 2022 to 78.48% in 2024. Additionally, the province saw the construction of 28 new classrooms, 21 temporary learning spaces, and the rehabilitation of existing educational facilities.

Oualbéogo attributed these accomplishments to Benon’s dedication and commitment. Secretary General Bingo praised Benon for his service and assured Traoré of the administration’s support in fulfilling his duties. Traoré’s appointment as the new DPEPPNF was confirmed by the Council of Ministers on October 16, 2024.
