DORI — In a significant development for regional sports, Souleymane Ouédraogo was elected as the president of the Sahel Regional Football League during the general assembly held in Dori on Friday, August 24, 2024. The newly formed executive office comprises 13 members, including two women, and will guide regional football from 2024 to 2028.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the executive team is set to tackle several critical challenges to improve football in the region. The primary focus will be on addressing the significant lack of sports infrastructure in Dori, which currently has only one football field. Enhancing the technical skills of club stakeholders and referees to boost club governance in the Sahel is also a priority.
Further, the team plans to revitalize the image of regional football by effectively mobilizing human and financial resources. Ouédraogo emphasized that communication and transparency, under the oversight of provincial and regional sports directorates, will be central to their strategy.
The assembly marked the transition from former president Cissé Boubacar Hama, with Ouédraogo acknowledging his predecessor’s contributions to regional football’s development.
