Angola Seeks to Bolster Cooperation with Czech Republic, President João Lourenço Announces

Luanda—Angolan President João Lourenço expressed his country’s desire to strengthen its relationship with the Czech Republic, stating that there are areas of common interest that can be developed for mutual benefit.

According to a new release by Angola Press News Agency, President Lourenço conveyed this sentiment in a congratulatory message on the occasion of the Czech Republic’s Independence Day.

In his message, President Lourenço proposed high-level meetings to lay the foundation for enhanced bilateral cooperation in the near future. He emphasized the untapped potential that exists between the two nations and expressed optimism about future collaboration.

The relationship between Angola and the Czech Republic has historical roots dating back to Angola’s proclamation of national independence, which was recognized by the then Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. The political-diplomatic ties between the two countries were formally established on January 1, 1993. In December 1999, a declaration was signed to cement the relationship, and further measures were taken in 2006 with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and the Development Cooperation Programme.

The Czech Republic is a Central European country with its capital in Prague, a city with a population exceeding one million. Both nations have considered establishing more robust and effective cooperation across a range of areas, building on their long-standing relationship.
