Ouagadougou: SOPAMIB Bouboulou SA, a subsidiary of SOPAMIB, has donated two road infrastructure projects totaling 5.8 kilometers to communities living near the Bouboulou gold mine. These two dirt roads, each 7 meters wide, will benefit residents of ten localities impacted by the mine's activities, including Bouboulou, Pelegtenga, Koala, Raw¨ma, Sabou, Ouedkiengho, Ragounda, Taonsgho, Gonsin, and Sassa.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the first road connects Pelegtenga to Sabou over a distance of 3.6 km, and the second connects Pelegtenga to the Bouboulou mine over a distance of 2.2 km. Flood-prone sections of both roads have been equipped with culverts to ensure they remain passable even during the rainy season. The official handover ceremony for these roads, held on July 17, 2026, in Pelegtenga, brought together administrative, traditional, and religious authorities from the Passor© Province, as well as residents of the beneficiary communities.

With a total cost of 200 million FCFA, this project is being carried out even before the mine begins production. According to Yannick Clovis Sanou, Managing Director of SOPAMIB Bouboulou SA, it is part of a broader development program for the benefit of the surrounding communities and constitutes the first phase of road infrastructure development in the villages impacted by this industrial project.

On behalf of the beneficiary communities, the Chief of the Canton of Sassa, Naaba Ligdi, welcomed the completion of these road infrastructures, which he considers a major step forward in improving the mobility of the population and facilitating travel. He expressed his hope for further road infrastructure development to further open up the area. He also offered his best wishes for the successful progress of the mine construction.

The President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the Yako municipality, Boukar© ZOMODO, emphasized that these road infrastructures will contribute to improving population mobility, access to basic social services, the movement of goods, and the economic vitality of the municipality. He concluded by expressing the municipality's gratitude to SOPAMIB Bouboulou SA for this fruitful partnership.

Presiding over the ceremony, the High Commissioner of the Passor© province, Daouda Sangare, praised the company's commitment. He highlighted the company's efforts in supporting the community and enhancing local infrastructure.

Thanks to the support of the Bouboulou gold mine in terms of equipment and the use of local materials, the surrounding communities are actively involved in the project. They are manufacturing the Compressed Earth Bricks (CEB) themselves, which are used for the mine's infrastructure and for relocation housing.

At the production platform installed on the mining site, the local association Bayir Metba manufactures over one million BTC. To carry out this activity, it already employs around twenty young people from the affected villages. Two new production lines will soon be commissioned, allowing the association to increase its production capacity and create new employment opportunities for the local communities.

Through this initiative, SOPAMIB Bouboulou SA is realizing its vision of a truly endogenous mining project, where local resources, community know-how, and employment constitute the primary benefits of mine development.
