Luanda: The Urban Regeneration and Redevelopment Project for Angolan Cities, known as SONA, was unveiled in Huambo city, with goals of achieving environmental sustainability and fostering inclusive urban development. The initiative, spearheaded by Carlos Alberto dos Santos, the Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing, aims to engage the private sector in sharing the responsibilities of sustainable growth.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Minister dos Santos emphasized that the SONA project is designed not only to involve public participation but also to improve the guided self-build program from 2027 to 2029. This government initiative seeks to address Angola's housing shortage by providing solutions for citizens in need of homes.
He further stated that approximately 350 million housing units have been constructed by the state, accommodating more than 2.2 million citizens. However, a significant gap remains, as an additional 2.2 million homes are needed to satisfy the demands of Angola's expanding population seeking proper housing.
