SOMISA Cup: Mankarga-Boéna winner of the first edition

The final of the first edition of the SOMISA Director General’s (DG) Cup in football was played on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 on the Sanbrado field, commune of Boudry. This sporting event combined with the launch of the 2023 reforestation campaign was celebrated under the theme “Social cohesion and environmental safeguard” and chaired by the High Commissioner of the province of Ganzourgou, Ms. Aminata Sorgho / Gouba.

By 1 goal to zero, the Mankarga-Boéna team beat the Pousghin-Manesse team in the final of the football competition counting for the first edition of the General Manager’s Cup of the Sanbrado Mining Company (SOMISA) . She leaves with two trophies, two sets of jerseys, five balls, 26 gold medals and an envelope of 300,000 CFA francs.

Its challenger, the Pousghin-Manesse team is encouraged with two trophies, two sets of jerseys, five balls, 26 silver medals and an envelope of 200,000 CFA francs.

The Boudry-Nédogo and SOMISA teams ranked 3rd and 4th respectively were encouraged with prizes in cash and in kind, as well as the best attacker, the best scorer, the best goalkeeper, the best referee and the fair play team.

On the sidelines of this final, SOMISA launched its 2023 edition reforestation campaign through the delivery of plants to the communities, a tree planting demonstration, a guided tour of the revegetated waste rock pile, the nursery within the SOMISA website and a presentation of letters of congratulations to two people who have distinguished themselves in reforestation in their communities.

For the director of corporate affairs of SOMISA, Christian Ouédraogo, this activity aims on the one hand to promote social cohesion between the communities and the mine and on the other hand to promote the planting of trees for sustainable development.

He congratulated all the teams that took part in the sports competition and encouraged communities to engage in tree planting.

“We want each tree planted to symbolize our common commitment to social cohesion, sustainable development and environmental preservation. he said. He invited all stakeholders (customers, employees, partners, inhabitants of the impacted area) to take ownership of this activity.

According to SOMISA’s environment and rehabilitation director, Pablo Tjoe-Awie, SOMISA has opted for the gradual rehabilitation of its site in order to leave the community with a reconstituted environment at the end of its operation.

To allow the authorities to get a feel for what is being done in this direction, they were taken inside the site for a guided tour of a revegetated waste rock pile and the nursery, followed by a planting demonstration of TREE.

According to Mr. Tjoe-Awie, more than 27 thousand seedlings of 18 different local species have been produced this year in the nursery.

During this reforestation campaign, more than 20,000 seedlings will be planted on the site and 6,000 others will be given to neighboring communities to be planted in schools, health centers and public administration sites.

According to him, 28 workers from the environment department of SOMISA and 30 community nationals received training on plant production in nurseries and reforestation techniques. Still according to him, training, production of seedlings and reforestation campaign cost SOMISA the sum of 41 million 400 thousand CFA francs.

In collaboration with the Boudry environmental technical services, SOMISA hopes for a plant survival rate of 80% for this campaign.

The Water and Forests Commander Abdou Kader Sawadogo, representing the regional director of the environment of the central plateau, congratulated SOMISA for its efforts in the field of the environment.

He invited the mine to continue to build solid and sustainable environmental projects and programs in order to protect the natural resources threatened on all sides and contribute to the fight against food insecurity.

The High Commissioner of Ganzourgou Province, Ms. Aminata Sorgho/Gouba thanked SOMISA for the initiative of the day dedicated to social cohesion and environmental protection.

She wanted the SOMISA cut and the 2023 reforestation campaign to be a source of positive transformation for the benefit of SOMISA, the community and the environment for a Burkina of peace, social cohesion and prosperity.
