Berlin: Despite the ban imposed by the German authorities on inviting Russian representatives to the events marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory in World War II in Berlin and Brandenburg, some of them were still extended invitations, the head of Russian foreign cooperation agency Rossotrudnichestvo, Yevgeny Primakov, said on Wednesday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, in early April, German newspaper Berliner Zeitung reported, citing the German Foreign Ministry's document, that Russian and Belarusian representatives were not to be admitted to the federal, regional, and municipal Victory Day celebratory events, and that the local authorities may "exercise their right of eviction."
"The federal government issued a letter to municipalities with a ban on inviting Russian representatives from the embassy, the ambassador, to monitor the appearance of symbols, up to the use of force to withdraw them from events," Primakov told reporters. Despite this directive, he noted, "Many municipalities did not care about this letter. They have invited our diplomatic representatives as well."
