The Somali government has announced the formation of a special committee to oversee the quality and efficiency of the services provided by the organisations that facilitate the Hajj pilgrimage for Somali citizens.

The Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Mukhtar Robo Ali, revealed the proposals for the committee on Wednesday, saying that it was a key step towards improving the planning and administration of the Hajj.

The committee, made up of nine prominent individuals, will supervise the significant Hajj Tasks Competition, which is vital in assessing the quality of the services offered by organisations in charge of bringing pilgrims to the Holy House of God during the upcoming Hajj season of 1445 AH/2024 AD.

The Ministry elaborated on the major duties assigned to this committee, highlighting their critical contribution to strengthening the processes surrounding the Hajj pilgrimage. The committee will evaluate the performance of the organisations based on several criteria, such as their complia
nce with health and safety regulations, their provision of adequate accommodation and transportation, their facilitation of visa and passport procedures, and their adherence to Islamic values and ethics.

The Ministry also emphasized the government’s dedication to ensuring a smooth and well-organised experience for the Somali citizens embarking on this journey of pilgrimage, which is one of the five pillars of Islam. The Ministry urged the organisations to cooperate with the committee and to abide by its decisions, which will be announced in due course.
