Mogadishu – Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre of Somalia visited the Afmadow district in the Lower Jubba region today, part of his tour to assess the humanitarian situation following recent heavy rains. President Ahmed Mohamed Islam of Jubbaland, local authorities, and community members welcomed Mr. Barre at Afmadow’s airport. The Prime Minister expressed solidarity with the flood victims and reaffirmed the federal government’s support.
According to Somali National News Agency, earlier in the week, Prime Minister Barre arrived in Kismayo, where he received a warm reception from officials and residents. He inaugurated the Jubaland State Ministry of Health and laid the foundation for a paved road connecting Kismayo to other districts. Additionally, he visited the city’s main hospital, commending the healthcare workers for their dedication.
The Prime Minister’s visit aims to bolster cooperation between the federal government and state administration, and address the immediate needs of those affected by the floods. Mr. Barre emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing security, infrastructure, and social services in the region and called for unity and dialogue among Somalis to confront the country’s challenges.
