Somali President attends Erdogan’s innaugration ceremony in Turkiye

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud attended the inauguration ceremony of Turkiye’s newly re-elected President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Saturday, where he congratulated President Erdogan, his party, and his political alliance for their historic victory in Turkey’s national elections. The Somali President commended the progress achieved by Turkey under President Erdogan’s leadership and voiced his unwavering confidence in Turkiye’s continued remarkable development in various sectors. Turkiye has become one of Somalia’s greatest partners in recent years. Somalia maintains an embassy in Ankara, while Turkiye has a diplomatic mission in Mogadishu. The strong bond was further exemplified when Somalia joined the international community in providing aid support to assist victims of the Turkish earthquake in February. Turkiye, on its part, has consistently supported the Somali government by offering budgetary assistance, contributing to education initiatives, and aiding in the reconstruction of the Somali army. In a separate meeting, President Mohamud’s delegation engaged in substantive discussions with their Turkish counterparts, focusing on strengthening the bilateral ties that unite the two nations. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan secured a decisive victory in Turkiye’s recent presidential election, winning 52.14% of the votes in the runoff against opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu, who received 47.86%. President Erdogan’s re-election signifies his rule stretching into a third decade and his commitment to leading Turkiye through its ongoing journey of progress and prosperity. The 69-year-old leader, who announced his new cabinet later on Saturday, will be tasked with handling an economic crisis that has witnessed runaway inflation and the lira’s collapse. He named former economy chief and internationally respected ex-banker Mehmet Simsek as treasury and finance minister.
