Somali President and U.S. AFRICOM Officials Reaffirm Commitment to Counter Al-Shabaab

MOGADISHU — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with senior officials from the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) to deliberate on strategies for combating the Al-Shabaab insurgency in Somalia.

According to a new release by Somali National News Agency, the meeting was attended by A.I. Shane Dixon and Colonel David J. Haskell, the AFRICOM Commander for Somalia, as well as Somali military leaders. The United States expressed steadfast support for Somalia’s ongoing efforts against Al-Shabaab. President Mohamud highlighted the importance of international partnerships in combating the terrorist organization, which poses a significant threat to both Somalia and global stability.
