Solenzo Mobilizes for Malaria Chemo-Prevention Campaign Targeting Young Children

SOLENZO – Abdoul Kader Kongzabré, the Secretary General of Banwa province, launched a major chemo-prevention campaign against seasonal malaria on Friday evening, which is set to run through July 29. The campaign specifically targets children aged 3 to 59 months throughout the province.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Chief Physician of the Solenzo health district, the campaign was initiated in response to significant malaria cases reported this year. “From January 2024 to now, we have recorded 30,116 cases of malaria, including 10,332 children under 5 years old with 7 deaths including 6 children,” said Dr. Kouka during the campaign’s opening remarks. He emphasized the importance of community participation to ensure the success of the effort.

The campaign strategy includes door-to-door and fixed-site distributions of antimalarial tablets. Additionally, health workers will undertake measures to destroy mosquito breeding sites within local communities to curb the spread of the disease. The Secretary General, Abdoul Kader Kongzabré, urged the public to actively participate and spread the word in public spaces and places of worship, ensuring comprehensive coverage and protection for all eligible children within the province.
