Solemn Conclusion of Dedougou Diocese’s 25th Anniversary with Mass and Priest Ordinations

Mouhoun: The Diocese of Dedougou concluded its silver jubilee on Sunday, November 23, 2025, with a solemn Mass during which five young priests were ordained. This celebration, presided over by the diocesan bishop, Bishop Prosper Bonaventure Ky, brought together six bishops, priests, consecrated persons, and thousands of faithful from Burkina Faso and beyond.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the festivities began on November 19, 2025, with a press conference marking the official launch of the diocesan assembly. Bishop Prosper Bonaventure Ky outlined the challenges of the jubilee and presented the desired spiritual dynamic for the years to come. This meeting with the media opened a program that included greetings to traditional authorities, a torchlight procession, tributes to the pioneers of the diocese, and various moments of fraternal communion.

The sessions on Friday, November 21, and Saturday, November 22, 2025, were marked by five major communications which structured the diocesan reflection. The first focused on the profound meaning of the jubilee, recalling its biblical foundations and the call for a true pastoral conversion. Another presentation traced the history of the diocese, highlighting missionary initiatives since its creation and the challenges the local Church now faces.

A reflection was devoted to the need to "re-inform" the diocese to better respond to new pastoral requirements and current realities of Christian communities. Bishop Ky presented results of pastoral surveys conducted in the parishes, revealing expectations regarding training, liturgy, parish governance, and the participation of the faithful. The issue of self-reliance, highlighting prospects for better mobilization of local resources and increased co-responsibility, was widely discussed.

One highlight of the conference was the presentation of the new cathedral project, followed by the exhibition of the model. The diocesan fund dedicated to this construction was officially launched, calling for a broad mobilization of the faithful, partners, and people of goodwill.

On Sunday, November 23, 2025, the Solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe, the closing mass was celebrated in an atmosphere of fervor and gratitude. In his homily, Bishop Ky recalled the kingship of Christ, founded on mercy and self-giving, as the source of hope guiding God's people on their path of faith. He paid tribute to his predecessors, Bishop Zephirin Toe, Bishop Jude Bicaba, and Bishop Leopold Medard Ouedraogo, hailed as builders of peace and unity.

During the celebration, five new priests were ordained: Abbots Patrick Anicet Pare, Barthelemy Konkobo, Ernest Damoue, Parfait Kombelem, and Gaston Zongo. Inspired by the Beatitudes and the letters of Saint Paul, their mottos express their desire to live a ministry based on humility, charity, and service to the people of God. Bishop Ky urged them to remain close to the faithful and to carry out their mission in a spirit of collaboration and priestly fraternity.

The Bishop signed a decree establishing seven new parishes in the diocese. In closing the assembly and the jubilee festivities, he invited all Christians to continue building a living, missionary church deeply rooted in communion. He emphasized the need to view this jubilee not as a mere commemoration, but as a springboard for a new stage of spiritual and pastoral growth.

The day ended in a joyful atmosphere, marked by a bustling shopping street, fraternal gatherings, and popular celebrations. The faithful left carrying a message of hope and a renewed commitment to the service of Christ's mission.
