SoDMA Provides Aid to Flood-Impacted Families in Baidoa

BAIDOA: In response to the devastating impact of the El-Niño floods, the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has taken swift action, distributing relief items predominantly comprising food to 400 families residing in the South West Administration’s affected areas.

According to Somali National News Agency, the recipients of today’s aid are primarily impoverished individuals, women, and vulnerable children. These beneficiaries were meticulously selected from various districts and camps on the outskirts of Baidoa, an area that has been severely affected by heavy rains and flooding in the past month, resulting in significant displacement and numerous casualties.

Expressing their gratitude, the families acknowledged the assistance provided by the agency and commended the Director of the National Disaster Management Agency, who was present at the distribution alongside officials from both SoDMA and the Baidoa Administration. In a statement, the Deputy Commissioner for Social Affairs of Baidoa District, Abdullahi Ibrahim, and the Director of Relief Department of the Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management of the Federal Government, extended their thanks to SoDMA for the relief provided to the vulnerable families impacted by the El-Niño floods.

Emphasizing the ongoing needs of the flood victims, they called upon other humanitarian agencies and donors to step forward and contribute, highlighting the urgent requirement for additional support in terms of food, water, shelter, and health services. Addressing the media, Mukhtar Sheikh Hussein, Advisor for Rapid Response and Coordination at the National Disaster Management Agency, outlined the details of the relief distribution to the vulnerable families residing in Baidoa.

He reiterated SoDMA’s unwavering commitment to assisting those affected by natural disasters and climate change, emphasizing their close collaboration with various partners to address the humanitarian needs of the people. Concluding his statement, Hussein appealed to the public to remain vigilant, urging them to adhere to precautionary measures and stay informed through weather forecasts to mitigate further losses and damages caused by the floods.
