SoDMA Director visits Jawiil district, delivers aid to displaced people

A high-level delegation led by Mr. Mahmoud Ma’allim Abdulle, the Director of the Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), visited the district of Jawiil in the Hiran region on Sunday, October 15, 2023.

The delegation, which also included MP Mahmoud Abuukaate and military officers, traveled by land from Baladweyn, the capital of the Hiran region. They were warmly welcomed by hundreds of residents and local authorities in Jawiil, a district that has been affected by drought and conflict.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the humanitarian situation in the district and to deliver much needed aid to the vulnerable and displaced people living in Jawiil and nearby villages. The Director inspected 15 vehicles carrying food, water, blankets, and other items that were donated by SoDMA. He also distributed some of the aid to the people who had arrived in the district days ago after fleeing from violence in other areas.

In addition, the delegation visited the hospital in Jawiil town and delivered me
dical aid to the health workers and patients. The Director praised the efforts of the local administration and the community in coping with the challenges and assured them of SoDMA’s continued support.

The visit was part of SoDMA’s mandate to coordinate and manage disaster response and recovery activities in Somalia. The agency works with various partners and stakeholders to provide humanitarian assistance and resilience building to the people affected by natural and man-made disasters.
