Cunene: Over 1,000 vulnerable families in the province of Cunene were assisted in 2025 with various food items by the Social Action, Family and Gender Equality office, compared to 2,589 in the same period last year.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the information was disclosed Tuesday by the local director, Georgina Braga, who highlighted that 50,712 tons of food items were distributed for this purpose. The goods delivered included cornmeal, sugar, wheat flour, pasta, milk, baby cereal, sausage, beans, table salt, sorghum, palm oil, used clothing, and soap.
Braga stated that the action benefited a total of 6,552 people residing in the 14 municipalities of the province. Compared to the previous period, there was a reduction of 933 families assisted and 105,998 tons of goods distributed due to the economic situation the country is experiencing.
In the period under review, at least 324 elderly people were assisted with food, which is 945 fewer than in 2024. Additionally, 18 disabled individuals received means of locomotion, including 11 wheelchairs for adults, five pairs of crutches, and two canes.
Regarding the program for the protection and promotion of children's rights, 193 children under 12 years of age were supported, especially those unable to breastfeed. This represents an increase of 90 children compared to the previous period.
Braga also reported that the institution registered 93 cases of family conflict, an increase of three from the previous period. Of these cases, 69 were resolved. The most notable issues included abandonment of the home (57), psychological violence (24), physical aggression (11), and verbal assault (1), with 76 cases perpetrated by men and 17 by women.
Georgina Braga emphasized the need to reinforce permanent dialogue within families and the importance of reporting domestic violence cases to the appropriate authorities.
