Bobo-dioulasso: On the occasion of the 22nd edition of the National Culture Week, the Network of Journalists and Communicators for the Promotion of Road Safety in Burkina Faso (ReJSER-BF) organized an awareness caravan on the wearing of helmets, AIB observed on site. The event took place on Tuesday, April 28, and aimed to increase awareness about the importance of helmet use among motorcyclists.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the caravan traveled nearly 4 kilometers along the road near the House of Culture. It included students from Nazi Boni University and young people from the city of Sya, who participated by riding motorcycles while wearing helmets. A vehicle from the National Road Safety Office led the caravan, emphasizing the critical message of wearing helmets for safety.
Student Aboubacar Guitti, who participated in the event, stated that wearing a helmet is mandatory and essential for protecting the head against impacts. Guitti expressed hope that the activity would inspire peers to promote helmet use among their circles.
Marcus Kouaman, president of ReJSER-BF, highlighted the significance of organizing the awareness activity during National Culture Week due to the large crowd it attracts. With the theme 'My helmet, my life,' Kouaman emphasized the importance of encouraging young people and stakeholders to consistently wear helmets for safety.
The event saw a large turnout, including authorities and young participants, and received support from ONASER and the Brigade of Young Volunteers. The representative of Chief Bobo Mandar¨ expressed gratitude to the organizers, recognizing the potential of the event to protect young lives.
Lassane Porgo, commander of the 2nd Military Region, stressed the necessity of wearing helmets and dismissed the excuse of cost as a barrier. He urged individuals to wear helmets voluntarily before enforcement by authorities becomes necessary.
Ms. Same Yameogo Boudnooma, director of road safety, addressed the young participants, encouraging them to be responsible and set an example for others in building a safer nation.
The activity, sponsored by Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Gilbert Ouedraogo, and under the patronage of Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Yacouba Zabre Gouba, was co-sponsored by Lieutenant-Colonel Lassane Porgo. Created on March 15, 2015, ReJSER-BF is dedicated to promoting road safety through the advocacy of helmet use, seat belts, and speed regulation.
