||Kharas: Special voting in the ||Kharas Region started at 07h00 on Wednesday with no hiccups, the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) Electoral Officer for the region, Jejamaije Mujoro, has said. The ECN has established three polling stations across the region, at Keetmanshoop, Lderitz, and Oranjemund, to allow members of the security cluster and seagoing personnel to cast their votes in the Presidential and National Assembly (NA) elections.
According to Namibia Press Agency, in an interview with Nampa on Wednesday, Mujoro said by 11h00 at least 600 people had cast their votes at all three polling stations. “We started on time. There was only a small delay at Oranjemund because of some network issues, other than that we are good and everything is going smoothly. We are receiving a lot of people from the Namibian Defence Force as expected, but we have it under control. The good thing is the Electoral Act gives us permission to get ballots from another polling station if needed,” she added.
Namibian Police
Force ||Kharas Regional Commander, Commissioner Marius Katamila, noted that not all police officers would vote on Wednesday, stating that they cannot abandon police stations as people still need police services. He added that his office has deployed enough officers to be stationed at all polling stations for the main election day.
“This region is vast. The manpower I have is not sufficient, but with what we have we will do our level best. We have the required officers that should be allocated to each polling station. In ||Kharas, the deployment is done in such a way that for people or officers that are administrative on election day, we will close offices,” he said.
The rest of the country will cast their votes on 27 November.
