SME Support Deemed Vital for Economic Growth in Arandis

ARANDIS — During a recent event in Arandis, Benitha Imbamba, the Councillor of Arandis Constituency and chairperson of the Erongo Regional Council management committee, emphasized the critical role of funding small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to ensure their growth into established businesses. The event witnessed the handover of essential equipment to 24 local SMEs.

According to Namibia Press Agency, supporting the SME sector is crucial as it forms the backbone of the economy. The government’s commitment to eradicating poverty and fostering economic development has been manifested in initiatives like the National Development Plan 5 (NDP5) and the Harambee Prosperity Plan. The equipment, which included sewing machines, gardening tools, and refrigerators, was funded through the Erongo Regional Council’s Constituency Development Fund (CDF), with over N$350,000 allocated to approximately 30 projects in Arandis and Henties Bay.

The distribution of this equipment represents a collaborative effort to advance community-driven goals and promote unity, Imbamba noted. Sylvester Mubila, Deputy Director for Regional Planning at the Erongo council, also spoke at the event, emphasizing the role of individual participation in national and regional development through the CDF. Mubila detailed the government’s broader infrastructure goals, including the introduction of a minor capital program within the CDF to complement major socio-economic programs.

On behalf of the recipients, Frieda Ndengu expressed gratitude towards the government and local authorities for supporting their economic contributions. Ndengu, who received sewing equipment, highlighted the ongoing need for community support and the significant impact of such collaborative initiatives on SME success. She committed to utilizing the new resources effectively to ensure the prosperity of their businesses.
