Slow but Steady Start to Voting in Katutura East Constituency

Windhoek: Polling stations in the Katutura East Constituency of Windhoek reported a slow but steady voter turnout from the opening hours on Wednesday. Junias Mwapopi and Shawn Plaatjies, the presiding officers of polling stations A and B at Jan Jonker Afrikaner Secondary School in the Katutura East Constituency, both reported a good turnout when the stations opened, but said that turnout slowed shortly thereafter.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Plaatjies mentioned that there was a strong turnout early in the morning but observed a decline in the number of people coming to the polls as the day progressed. He suggested that the decline might be due to a lack of understanding about the importance of the Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections.

First-time voter, Requelme Oldman, called on the public to participate in the elections, emphasizing the significant impact of each vote. Oldman expressed a desire to effect change in the community by exercising the right to vote and encouraged others to do the same.

Mwapopi also urged the public to turn out in greater numbers. He noted that the majority of voters were youth, which he saw as a positive sign, but reiterated the need for broader participation from the community.

Martyle Baffrath and Jarno Kapiya, presiding officers at the Roman Catholic Hall (Holy Redeemer) in the Katutura East Constituency, also reported a strong initial turnout, with a subsequent decline in voter numbers as the day went on.
