Slovenian President, Mayor Adanech Launch Modern Urban Beekeeping Observatory

Addis Ababa: Slovenian President Nata€š¬¦¡a Pirc Musar and Mayor of Addis Ababa, Adanech Abiebie, launched a modern urban educational beekeeping observatory at Addis Zoo Park in Addis Ababa today. The initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening educational and environmental efforts in the city.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, President Nata€š¬¦¡a Pirc Musar highlighted the project as an effort to promote education and cultural heritage. Emphasizing the deep connection both Ethiopia and Slovenia share with bees, she noted the importance of fostering a love for nature to create a better world. She further stated that the observatory is part of broader efforts to unite the two nations through projects and partnerships.



President Pirc Musar acknowledged Slovenia’s extensive experience with urban beekeeping and reiterated her country’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia in enhancing its honey production capabilities. She underscored that modern beekeeping practices could help Ethiopia’s high-quality honey gain global recognition. Additionally, she expressed Slovenia’s desire to strengthen relations with Ethiopia in various areas of cooperation.



Mayor Adanech Abiebie emphasized the significance of the urban bee observatory as a crucial component of Addis Ababa’s strategy to tackle environmental challenges, enhance food security, and protect biodiversity. She mentioned that the pilot project demonstrates the city’s commitment to becoming greener and more self-reliant, with beekeeping contributing to pollination, biodiversity preservation, and community education.



The Mayor pointed out that the effort aligns with Ethiopia’s national strategy on food security and climate change initiatives. She recognized the role of international partnerships and collaborative efforts in achieving common goals and expressed gratitude to Slovenia for their support in launching the observatory. ‘This facility is more than just a site; it is a classroom for our students, a destination for conscious tourists, and a symbol of what global cooperation can achieve at the urban level,’ the Mayor elaborated.
