Six Young Girls Awarded Scholarships and Computers for Excellence in Mathematics


Ouagadougou: Six female students were awarded scholarships, computers, tablets, and school kits on Thursday for their performance in the second edition of the national “Elite Mathematics” competition, organized by the Maison Arc-en-ciel association. The awards, which ranged from 75,000 to 180,000 FCFA, were presented to three winners from the post-primary category and three from the secondary category.



According to Burkina Information Agency, coordinator of the Maison Arc-en-ciel association, the competition aims to encourage girls to pursue scientific subjects, especially mathematics. He expressed satisfaction with the increased interest in the contest, which attracted over 100 applications from 10 regions of Burkina Faso.



The winners, including Kossongonona Ervine from Saint Jean-Baptiste de la Salle College, who took first place in the secondary category, were recognized for their academic excellence. The initiative is supported by the Ministry of National Education, with technical advisor Barthélémy Badiel emphasizing the importance of promoting science education among girls. Dr. Olivia Solange Congo/Zagaré, the competition’s sponsor, praised the participants and encouraged more girls to excel in scientific fields.
