Situation of Primary Education and Agro-Pastoral Campaign Discussed in Sourou

Ouagadougou: Members of the Provincial Consultation Framework (CCP) convened their second ordinary session of the year, focusing on primary education in Sourou province and the 2025-2026 agro-pastoral campaign.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting was chaired by Desire Badolo, the High Commissioner of the province, and was financed by the Emergency Project for Territorial Development and Resilience (PUDTR) and the Danish Refugee Council (DRC). The discussions primarily addressed the state of primary education establishments and the upcoming agricultural campaign. The Danish Refugee Council also introduced its interventions in Sourou, including the DP/FLASH project, during the meeting.

The Provincial Director in charge of Primary Education, Aldjouma Soro, presented the status of school operations from 2020 to 2025, noting the impact of the security and humanitarian crisis since 2019. Schools in the province operated at reduced capacity, with only 98 out of 268 schools functional in 2025, and 50 of these being relocated. Despite these challenges, the primary school certificate success rates improved significantly, reaching 96.14% in 2025. Plans are in place to reopen 13 educational structures for the 2025-2026 school year.

On the agro-pastoral front, Jacques Nademb¨ga, the provincial official in charge of the sector, provided a positive outlook for the 2025-2026 wet season. The province expects a production of 209,422 tonnes, including 180,002 tonnes of cereals, alongside significant livestock production.

Issiaka Kabore of the DRC outlined the NGO's mission, vision, and the scope of the DP/FLASH project. High Commissioner Badolo commended the discussions' quality and urged collaboration with defense forces to strengthen the province's security. He also reminded livestock owners to adhere to safety instructions to protect people and property.
