Sissili: Religious leaders come to the rescue of internally displaced people

The Association of Customary and Traditional Leaders of Léo, offered on Friday, March 17, 2023 to Léo, food and clothing effects to internally displaced persons in the province of Sissili. It was in the presence of the Governor of the Center-West region, Boubacar Nouhoun Traoré.

The province of Sissili registered 17,168 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as of February 28, 2023 due to insecurity.

These people forced to leave their land most often arrive without a subsistence minimum, because they have abandoned everything.

This desolate situation cannot leave the red caps of the canton of Léo indifferent.

To show its solidarity with these victims of terrorist attacks, the Association of Customary and Traditional Leaders of Leo has decided to donate food to relieve their suffering a little.

The ceremony took place on Friday March 17, 2023 in Léo, under the sponsorship of the general manager of the Wend Waoga Nabonswende (S2WN) company, Moustapha Souli and in the presence of the governor of the center-west region, Boubacar Nouhoun Traoré.

The donation consists of 140 bags of 50 kg of corn, 10 bags of 100 kg of corn, 07 bags of 50 kg of rice, 02 bags of corn flour, a can of 05 liters of oil, clothing effects and a sum of CFAF 750,000.

“Today is a great day for them in the sense that their heartfelt cry for the demonstration of solidarity with IDPs has been heard and supported by goodwill,” said His Majesty Chief of the canton of Léo.

He expressed his gratitude to the godfather who spared no effort to support them in their outpouring of solidarity with their brothers in distress.

The Head of the canton of Léo finally greeted and congratulated the governor of the Center-West region, who came to discuss with the living forces of the province of Sissili on insecurity.

The governor of the Center-West region, Boubacar Nouhoun Traoré, said he came to bring a message of peace.

“It’s time to talk to us, never again. If weapons could do everything, the United States would win all its wars. No soldier, gendarme or policeman is proud to shoot his brother. If we have come to this point it is because we want to defend ourselves”, indicated the Governor.

For him, the family should not be shattered because we do not get along.

“We will have to unite in a good intelligence, look each other in the eye and tell each other that enough is enough. As many IDPs as dead and orphans and wondering what have we done to God to deserve this sad fate,” Mr. Traoré lamented.

He then invited all the active forces, individually or collectively, to work in close collaboration with the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP), for a return to peace.

Governor Traoré invited the High Commissioner to work with the presidents of the special delegations for the establishment and revitalization of youth watch cells throughout the province.

“This makes it possible to denounce all suspicious cases,” he said.

He asked everyone to have a sense of humanism, respect for social and moral values, to make themselves useful for them and for those around them.

“Even if one day we manage to defeat terrorism and the operating software of our societies does not change, we will experience worse evils than terrorism,” he said
