Sissili Marks International Youth Day with Focus on Security and Civic Engagement

SISSILI — International Youth Day was commemorated in Léo, Sissili on Saturday, August 24, 2024, with a series of events orchestrated by the Provincial Youth Council (CPJ) emphasizing the theme “Youth, citizen monitoring, and the fight against insecurity in Burkina Faso.”



According to Burkina Information Agency, president of the Sissili Provincial Youth Council, the day was filled with various activities including a popular cross-country race, an aerobics session, tree planting in local households and public services, a debate, a radio broadcast discussing the theme, and a gala match between young people and local authorities. The events saw participation from several dignitaries including Baowindsida Bingo, the secretary general of the province, and Kassoum Koalaga, President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of Léo, alongside customary authorities and other official bodies.



Nabolé highlighted the targeted tree planting initiative, expressing confidence in the community’s commitment to maintaining the newly planted trees. He also praised the overall smooth execution of the day’s activities and extended gratitude towards local leaders, youth participants, partners, and supporters for their contributions.



On his part, Léo’s PDS, Kassoum Koalaga, commented on the significance of the day’s theme, urging young people to persist in their civic monitoring efforts, which he deemed essential for combating insecurity in the region. He also showcased the acquisition of 15 tricycles by his municipality as part of a presidential initiative for endogenous development, noting their timely arrival to aid in local efforts.



Koalaga encouraged the community to utilize the tricycles responsibly for the benefit of Léo and applauded the young people’s involvement in developmental actions, echoing sentiments of encouragement and appreciation for their ongoing commitment expressed by Baowindsida Bingo.
