LÉO, SISSILI — On Friday, July 26, 2024, the Association of Young Entrepreneurs of the Center-West Region (AJECO) distributed installation kits to 45 internally displaced women from Sissili, who were trained in saponification techniques. The ceremony, chaired by the High Commissioner Tewindé Isaac Sia, marked a significant step in supporting these women to become self-sufficient in soap production.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of AJECO, the kits were provided following a comprehensive training session held from June 24 to 28, 2024, in Léo. These kits include essential tools such as pots, plastic basins, buckets, spatulas, sieves, cups, and molds, which are crucial for the production of both ball and liquid soap.
Zongo highlighted that the initiative is part of a broader project titled ‘Support and resilience project for 500 IDPs in the Center-West region,’ aimed at empowering displaced individuals through practical skills and resources. He added that the project’s success was bolstered by the support from various partners, which extended beyond training to include distribution of soap production equipment, food, and clothing.
The association plans to organize these trained women into cooperatives, acting as a liaison with local authorities, to enhance their business prospects and market access. High Commissioner Sia praised the efforts of AJECO and its partners and encouraged the newly trained women to form an association to better facilitate the sale of their products. He also assured them of ongoing support in their income-generating activities.
The event underscores a significant community and governmental effort to support displaced individuals in the Center-West region, reflecting a commitment to recovery and resilience among vulnerable populations.
