Sissili Contingency Plan Developed to Strengthen Disaster Management in Léo

LÉO: The Permanent Secretariat of the Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Council (SP/CONASUR), supported by the financial backing of the climate resilience strengthening project and the hydromet project, organized a workshop from October 22 to 24, 2024, in Léo. The workshop aimed to develop a contingency plan for the commune of Léo to enhance local disaster and humanitarian crisis management. According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative to create a contingency plan is part of the broader project to bolster climate resilience in Burkina Faso, known as the hydromet project. The resulting document will serve as a key resource for coordinating disaster and crisis management efforts at the local level. The workshop's objective was to equip the urban municipality of Léo with a comprehensive contingency plan. Afred Somé, representing the prefect of the department of Léo, emphasized the plan's role in strengthening community resilience. He expressed appreciation for SP/CONASUR's ongoing support and ackn owledged the hydromet project's technical and financial contributions to disaster management efforts in Burkina Faso. Yacouba Yago, head of the SP/CONASUR mission, outlined the workshop as an initial phase in a broader process that includes further data collection, drafting, validation, and finalization of the municipal contingency plan. Over the course of 72 hours, participants enhanced their understanding of contingency plan development and received training on data collection tools, guided by activity coordinator Yacouba Yago. The workshop featured group and plenary sessions under the supervision of Yacouba Yago and his team from SP/CONASUR. Discussions focused on risk analysis, response capacities, scenario planning, prevention actions, emergency phase management, and intervention coordination.
