Sissili Celebrates Day for Promoting Trades and Professional Education

Burkina faso: The Provincial Directorate of Secondary Education and Vocational and Technical Training of Sissili organized the first edition of the "Day for the Promotion of Initiation to Trades and the Professionalization of Education" on Saturday, November 29, 2025. This event is part of the Presidential Initiative for Quality Education for All (IPEQ), aimed at reforming curricula to align with job market demands.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the day was held under the high patronage of the Minister in charge of Secondary Education and Vocational and Technical Training, represented by technical advisor Mr. Lin Hien. The event saw significant participation from schools engaged in trade initiation. Serge Lawabien To, the provincial director of Secondary Education and Vocational and Technical Training, stated that the event aligns with the vision of the country's highest authorities to prepare youth for exams and sustainable integration into socio-economic life.

To support these educational reforms, the provincial directorate of Sissili has initiated a project to create brigades to revitalize trade initiation in local schools (BDIME/Sissili). In a message delivered by the High Commissioner of Sissili, Twend Isaac Sia, the government reiterated its commitment to developing new curricula and supporting their implementation. This reform is seen as essential to transforming education into a springboard for employment and entrepreneurship in Burkina Faso.

Kalwoul/Karama Madeleine, the founder of the private school complex Betsaleel, shared her school's efforts in training students in various trades like weaving, dyeing, gardening, and agriculture. She highlighted the benefits of these programs, including increased student motivation and autonomy, as evidenced by students making their own uniforms and consuming produce from their school gardens.

Prominent economic figures such as carpentry expert His Majesty Lio-Pio Dan-Zw¨, construction specialist Oumarou Bassav, plumbing professional Alassane Guiend, and welding expert Fran§ois Kabor showcased the significant demand for skilled trades. The ceremony concluded with artistic performances and an exhibition of skills from Leo's schools and vocational training centers.
