Sissili: The Association Lire Leo (A2L) organised, on November 21 and 22, 2025 in Leo, the first edition of the Journees du Livre et de la Lecture de Leo (J3L), to promote reading as a means of fighting ignorance. "Burkina Faso is at war in all areas for its independence and sovereignty. The most dangerous enemy is ignorance and the most powerful weapon to fight it is reading," said promoter Savadogo, thus justifying the choice to invest in the field of education.
According to Burkina Information Agency, this first edition, which was held on the theme "Books and endogenous development", was placed under the chairmanship of the High Commissioner of Sissili, Tewende Isaac Sia and sponsored by the provincial director of secondary education, vocational and technical training, Serge Lawabien Toe. The program for these two days included a conference on the theme of publishing, led by university professor and writer, Dr. Dramane Konate, followed by reading competitions, artistic performances in slam poetry and theatre, performed by students and teachers, in front of a large audience.
Representing the High Commissioner, the president of the special delegation of the commune of Leo, Kassoum Koalaga, commended the A2L initiative. He urged the students to "dedicate themselves to reading to ensure their success at school." The representative of the sponsor, for his part, reaffirmed his support for an activity that "aligns with his department's objectives to improve the quality of education." The first edition of J3L ended on a note of general satisfaction, with plans already made for a second edition in 2026.
Founded in 2023 by the Centre for Studies and Promotion of Reading (CEPL), led by high school and college teacher Lassane Savadogo, the Association Lire Leo (A2L) situates its action within a particular national context.
