Sissili: 62,754 Children Under Five to Be Vaccinated Against Polio.

Sissili: A total of 62,754 children under the age of five are set to receive polio vaccinations in the province of Sissili during a four-day campaign from November 15 to 18, 2024. The Leo health district organized a meeting on Thursday, November 14, 2024, with provincial authorities, the media, and opinion leaders to discuss the second round of polio vaccinations coupled with national days of vitamin A+ supplementation, deworming, and malnutrition screening.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Dr. Aboubacary Abdou, the Chief Medical Officer of the Léo health district, highlighted that the campaign aims to reach 62,754 children in the Center-West region. Dr. Aboubacary shared insights on the first round of the polio campaign conducted from May 10 to 13, 2024, where 81,998 children were vaccinated against an initial target of 72,554, achieving a coverage rate of 113.24%.

The meeting also served to inform authorities, community leaders, and the media about the vaccination strategy, seeking their support t
o ensure the campaign’s success. The Secretary General of the province, Baowindsida Bingo, representing the High Commissioner, acknowledged the participants’ involvement and emphasized the importance of their commitment to protect children and enhance the health status of Sissili.

Mr. Bingo concluded with a call for collective effort, stating that the success of the campaign would contribute significantly to the well-being and health of the province’s children.
