KATIMA MULILO—Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Minister, Dr. Albert Kawana, inaugurated the Singalamwe Police Post in the Kongola Constituency of the Zambezi Region on Thursday.
According to News Releases by Namibia Press Agency, the facility, costing over N.dollars 34 million, includes a charge office, record room, radio room, kitchenette, two-bedroom house, barracks, staff entertainment area, and various utilities including a borehole and parking space. In his speech, Kawana stated that the new post underscores the government’s dedication to effective public service delivery and the welfare of the Force’s members, even amidst economic constraints.
The minister emphasized that the facility would enhance access to policing services in the Zambezi Region for residents and visitors alike, offering services such as crime prevention and investigation. Kawana also used the occasion to warn against secessionist plans, noting the region’s historical significance in Namibia’s liberation struggle.
Namibian Police Force Inspector-General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, pointed out that the facility will make law enforcement more accessible and responsive. Before this, residents had to travel over 20 kilometers to the Kongola police station for services. A new Toyota Land Cruiser 4×4 was also allocated to the post.
