Ouagadougou: The newly constructed multi-sports ground in Sindou has come under scrutiny as students from local high schools and colleges called for its rehabilitation during a recent sports competition. The call to action occurred during the Burkina Faso School and University Sports Union (USSUBF) event, which saw participation from various educational institutions in the area.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the demand for repairs arose during a women's match between teams from the provincial high school and Sindou middle school. Heavy rain interrupted the game just before halftime, leading students and supervisors to take matters into their own hands by using tree branches and cloths to drain the water from the playing surface. The effort highlighted the pressing need for improvements to the facility, which was completed in 2022 but already shows signs of wear.
Aboubacar Dao, the provincial director in charge of sports in L©raba, acknowledged the concerns raised by the students and expressed awareness of the issue among his superiors. Construction of the sports ground began in 2021 during the commemoration of December 11, 2020, in the Cascades region. Dao emphasized that addressing the students' concerns would benefit not only the local sports community but also the broader school environment in the area.
The students' appeal underscores the importance of maintaining sports infrastructure to foster an active lifestyle and support local sports activities. The situation calls for prompt action to ensure the ground meets the needs of the community it serves.
