Sindou – The inaugural Sindou Peaks Peace Half-Marathon, aimed at promoting environmental stewardship, sporting leisure, peace, and social cohesion in Léraba province, officially commenced on November 14, 2023. The event was launched at the Maison des Jeunes et de la Culture de Sindou by Yéonviel Somé, the secretary general of the province, representing the High Commissioner of Léraba, Mahamadi Congo.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the half-marathon, scheduled from November 14 to 18, 2023, kicked off with a series of activities at the cultural center in Sindou, the provincial capital. The day began with an address by the High Commissioner, marking the official start of the event. This was followed by a special fundraising operation to garner patriotic support in Léraba, and a conference centered on the theme “promotion of peace and social cohesion through sport and leisure.”
Secretary General Yéonviel Somé presided over these ceremonies, highlighting the significance of the event in fostering community unity and environmental consciousness through sports.
This first edition of the half-marathon in Léraba province has garnered notable support and recognition. It is held under the patronage of the Minister of Sports, Youth, and Employment, Dr. Boubacar Savadogo, and the co-patronage of the Minister of Communication, Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo. The event is also chaired by the Minister of Agriculture, Animal and Fisheries Resources, Commander Ismaël Sombié, and sponsored by the Director General of the Burkinabè Chargers Council, Dr. Kassoum Traoré. Additionally, the Minister of National Defense and Veterans, Brigadier General Kassoum Coulibaly, is the guest of honor for the marathon.
