Sierra Leone’s President Calls for Greater African Representation on UN Security Council

NEW YORK – Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio, speaking at a United Nations Security Council meeting in New York, has reiterated Africa’s demand for increased representation on the Council, including two permanent seats.

According to Burkina Information Agency, who also serves as the coordinator of the African Union’s Committee of Ten on UN Security Council reform, Africa has presented a clear and convincing case for reform. He emphasized that Africa’s proposal includes two permanent seats and two additional non-permanent seats on the Security Council to ensure equitable representation and meaningful participation of the continent in global decision-making. The speech, advocating for this significant change in UN structure, was broadcasted on the UN website.
