Sierra Leone’s Finance Minister Sheku Bangura Ranks 23rd Among Africa’s Top 40 Finance Leaders for 2026

Freetown: Sierra Leone's Minister of Finance, Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, has been named 23rd among Africa's Top 40 Finance Leaders for 2026 by the African Leadership Magazine (ALM). The ranking was unveiled in London as part of ALM's annual showcase of financial leadership across the continent.

According to Sierra Leone News Agency, the list honors individuals driving fiscal stability, financial inclusion, and sustainable growth at a critical time for Africa. Bangura's placement at No. 23 puts him alongside finance ministers, central bank governors, and financial executives who are helping reshape Africa's economic path.

Since taking office in 2023, Bangura has led Sierra Leone's fiscal policy, public financial management, revenue mobilization, and economic reforms aimed at building resilience and promoting inclusive growth. His leadership has become known for policy discipline, transparency, and efforts to steady the country's economy amid global and domestic challenges.

The ALM ranking uses strict criteria, including institutional influence, policy impact, innovation in financial systems, and sustained leadership performance between 2024 and 2026. The recognition highlights Bangura's role in advancing reforms that align Sierra Leone with continental goals of economic transformation and investment readiness.

This latest honor follows his previous continental acclaim, including being named African Government Minister of the Year 2025 at the ALM Persons of the Year Awards. As Africa faces shifting economic realities, Bangura's inclusion in the Top 40 signals Sierra Leone's growing voice in regional financial governance and its commitment to sustainable development, fiscal responsibility, and long-term economic stability.
