Sierra Leone and Morocco Vow to Accelerate Bilateral Cooperation as Joint Meeting Closes in Freetown

Freetown: The Sierra Leone-Morocco Joint Follow-Up Committee on the 2nd April, 2026, concluded its meeting in Freetown with both sides reaffirming their commitment to fast-track the implementation of the 13th Memorandum of Understanding and Agreements across key sectors, including education, vocational training, trade, investment, judicial cooperation, tourism, health, energy, agriculture, and urban planning.

According to Sierra Leone News Agency, the Acting Director General of Sierra Leone's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Franklyn Brima Fawundu, commended both delegations for the progress made and stressed the need to translate the outcome of the meeting into concrete actions as outlined in the draft agreements. He extended sincere appreciation to both governments for funding the follow-up meeting.

The Head of the Moroccan Delegation, Abdellah Boutadghart, expressed satisfaction with the successful conclusion of the meeting. He thanked Sierra Leone's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabbah, for his presence and guidance, and acknowledged his co-chair, Mr. Mohamed Ouori, along with experts from both sides, for their professionalism and brotherly spirit.

He noted that the signing of the meeting's minutes would give new impetus to bilateral partnership, elevating cooperation to the level of a strategic partnership built on trust, solidarity, and complementarity. The meeting allowed both parties to review progress made since the third session of the Joint Commission of Cooperation held in Dakhla in April 2023.

The Moroccan Head of Delegation extended warm congratulations to the people of Sierra Leone on their National Day, celebrated on April 27, with wishes for continued peace and prosperity. He thanked Sierra Leonean authorities for their warm welcome and generous hospitality.

'We will retain not only the high quality of our exchanges but also the spirit of friendship and brotherhood that marked our meetings,' he said.

Both sides look forward to maintaining positive momentum and laying the groundwork for the fourth session of the Joint Commission of Cooperation. 'Long live Morocco-Sierra Leone cooperation. Long live the friendship between our two brotherly peoples,' he concluded.
