Siaya Stadium Set for Completion in Three Months, Says Governor Orengo

SIAYA, Kenya — The Siaya stadium, under construction for six years, is expected to be completed within the next three months, announced Governor James Orengo during a recent inspection of the works.

According to Kenya News Agency, the stadium will have a capacity of 20,000 and is envisioned to be a top-tier sports facility in the region, suitable for international soccer and athletic events. He expressed hope for the stadium’s readiness by mid-August, proposing an inaugural match featuring local teams to celebrate the opening. “Our hope is that by mid-August, the stadium will be ready for use,” Orengo said, adding a special invitation to Bunge FC to participate in the event alongside Gor Mahia and another team currently under negotiation.

Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, who also attended the inspection, praised the governor for overcoming challenges that had previously stalled the project, including procurement issues. As captain of Bunge FC, Amollo committed to ensuring his team’s participation in the grand opening, which he anticipates will also attract a team from the East Africa region.

Migori Senator Eddy Oketch highlighted the stadium as a success story of devolution, emphasizing the importance of governmental support at all levels. “As senators, we must fight for more money to come to the grassroots,” Oketch stated, underscoring the role of funding in realizing such community projects.

Kisumu Deputy Governor, Dr. Mathews Owili, linked the completion of Siaya Stadium to broader regional sports developments, noting its potential role in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as a venue for matches or practice sessions.
