Siaya: Siaya Community Digital Hub has launched an initiative to donate computers to schools in the region, aimed at exposing students to digital skills at a tender age. Speaking at Bondo Township Primary School, where he presided over the donation of computers, the founder of Siaya Community Digital Hub, Dr. Oburu Oginga, said the initiative will help impart computer knowledge to students at an early stage.
According to Kenya News Agency, Dr. Oburu explained that the world is advancing digitally, and it is crucial for students to embrace technology and artificial intelligence during their primary and secondary education. This early exposure is intended to prevent culture shock when students transition to university-level education.
He disclosed that the initial batch of 40 computers is designated for Bondo Township Primary School and Jaramogi, Akoko, and Gobei Secondary Schools in Bondo sub-county. Additionally, other schools throughout the county are set to benefit from the program in the future.
Dr. Oburu highlighted that beyond donating computers, the hub provides opportunities for university students and teachers to develop digital skills, including AI, to stay current with technological advancements. The initiative also aims to tackle high unemployment rates by equipping students with the skills necessary to work with international companies that outsource digital labor.
Moreover, Dr. Oburu, who serves as the Siaya Senator, urged other leaders and organizations to contribute to youth digital education by either donating computers to schools or sponsoring digital skill acquisition programs.
