Ouagadougou: The Ouagadougou Polytechnic School is present at the Ouagadougou International Crafts Fair (SIAO) to present its creation of natural dyes. “Today, we are here to present an innovation in the field of clothing and textiles. We are working on the natural dye to apply it to Faso Danfani in order to enhance what we have here in Burkina Faso,” said textile engineer from the Polytechnic School of Ouagadougou, Assimi Nikiema, on Saturday, speaking to AIB.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Mr. Nikiema stated that these natural dyes will replace synthetic dyes, which have shown their limitations due to environmental pollution and health consequences. The team is utilizing Burkinabe plants to extract natural and ecological dyes that offer an alternative to chemical dyes.

The Ouagadougou Polytechnic School is making its debut at the SIAO with support from the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI), which aims to protect various creations and inventions. Textile engineer Nikiema is also u
sing the platform to showcase the École Polytechnique de Ouagadougou, an engineering school known for its comprehensive design engineering programs.

The School offers five major courses: textile engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, computer engineering, and telecommunications engineering. It is a public institution that admits students through a competitive examination. New high school graduates can enter preparatory classes after passing an entrance test, and after two years, they proceed to a three-year engineering cycle, culminating in a design engineer diploma.

Additionally, the community shareholding stand, launched in 2023 by the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, is located nearby. According to the head of the community shareholding department, Manassira Sanou/Traoré, around a hundred subscriptions were recorded on the second day of the exhibition, indicating that their message is resonating with the public. She urged the people of Burkina Faso to help achieve the targ
