SIAO 2024: Djeli Karim Captivates Audience in Closing Performance.

Ouagadougou: The 17th edition of the Ouagadougou International Crafts Fair (SIAO) concluded on Sunday evening with a performance by Burkinabe musician Djeli Karim. The event drew a large crowd who gathered to witness the closing moments of the fair. According to Burkina Information Agency, the musical show featured Djeli Karim and his orchestra, fresh from a two-month and 15-day European tour. The performance was more than just a concert; it was a moment of connection between the artist and the audience, who filled the courtyard of the SIAO. As Djeli Karim sang, the audience enthusiastically joined in, echoing the lyrics and responding to his calls. For an hour, the artist performed a series of songs, including "Djeliya" and "Doni Doni," which captivated the audience. At the end of his performance, Djeli Karim shared his satisfaction, stating, "The audience did great tonight. They put on a show with me." Expressing gratitude, Djeli Karim said, "I am very happy to have had the opportunity to close the SIAO. Tonight's show comes just after my return from a two-month and 15-day international tour. I thank the country's authorities, cultural actors, and journalists for organizing this event and its media coverage." The musician urged all Burkinabe to unite, saying, "I invite all Burkinabe to join hands so that we can go far." He highlighted his international tour, which included performances in several cities in Germany, Switzerland, and France, where he promoted peace and represented Burkina Faso. Djeli Karim, from a family of griots known as 'Djeli' in Dioula, released his second album, "Doni Doni," on February 16, 2024, in Burkina Faso. The album earned him the Kundé du Public 2024 and Kundé for Best Modern Song of Traditional Inspiration, along with the 2024 Bobo Lolo d'Or, and awards for Best Collaboration and Best Modern Song of Traditional Inspiration.
