Shop Employee in Ohangwena Arrested for Alleged Theft of N$26,000


Ohangwena — A 36-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly stealing N$26,000 from her employer’s shop in Ontana village, Okankolo Constituency, on Saturday night. The suspect, reportedly the only employee at the shop, is accused of attempting to cover up the theft by burning papers in the shop’s safe.



According to Namibia Press Agency, the region’s Crime Investigations Coordinator, the incident occurred around 10:00 PM. The suspect allegedly took N$26,000 from the shop safe and then tried to deceive her employer by burning papers to suggest that the money had also been destroyed in the fire.



Ekandjo also reported that N$7,000 of the stolen money has been recovered. The suspect, who resides in Okauva village within the same region, was scheduled to appear in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday.



Police investigations into the case are ongoing.
