Ondangwa: The Inspector General of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) has urged cadet constables undergoing training at the Ruben ‘Danger’ Ashipala Police Training Centre to remain committed to their duties if they wish to secure appointments in the force. Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo made the remarks while addressing 910 trainees at the Ondangwa Trade Fair Centre on Monday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the cadet constables, comprising 637 men and 273 women from all 14 regions, have already completed six months of their nine-month programme and are expected to graduate in May this year. They form part of 1,800 trainees overall. Similar training is being conducted at the Pius Joseph Kaundu Police Training Centre in the Omaheke Region and the Simon Mutumba Training Centre in the Zambezi Region.

Shikongo said they expect to train over 500 trainees out of the total of 1,800 in different fields of specification such as the VIP Department, border and infrastructure security, the Special Reserve Force, and the Crime Investigation Unit. He underscored the importance of impartiality and professionalism in policing, and urged trainees to serve the public without discrimination or favouritism.

‘You should not discriminate, you should be transparent and ensure accessibility for our people at all times,’ he added. The nine-month training includes six months of theory and physical training, followed by three months of work-integrated learning at various police stations.
