Guinas: Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Inspector General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, has called on police officers in the Zambezi Region to work diligently and to continue striving for excellence in their service to the community in 2025. Shikongo urged the officers to build on their recent successes while addressing them at the Katima Mulilo police headquarters on Thursday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, while he did not disclose detailed statistics, he praised the region’s performance during the festive season’s ‘Operation Rainbow,’ which officially concludes on Friday. A briefing from Zambezi Regional Commander, Commissioner Andreas Shilelo, highlighted that the operation resulted in significant improvements in crime prevention and a reduction in criminal activities.
Shikongo commended the officers for their professional conduct during the November elections and festive season operations. He encouraged them to continue serving their communities with integrity, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the core values of the Namibian Police Force. He urged the officers to assist people based on their needs and to avoid discrimination along tribal lines, stressing fairness and firmness while denouncing bribery and other social ills.
He also encouraged officers to remain dedicated, stating that promotions will be earned through hard work rather than favouritism. The inspector general assured that the human resource needs of the police force would be addressed based on reports and requests from the regional commander’s office.
Shikongo informed the officers that Commissioner Shilelo’s service has been extended for another year, as he was scheduled to retire this year. Additionally, Sergeant Salom Petrus was recommended for promotion after impressing Shikongo with his exceptional responses during a parade of junior police officers.
