Shikongo Inaugurates Omusati’s Onheleiwa Police Station

Omusati: Inspector-General (IG) of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo on Tuesday inaugurated a N.dollars 7.5 million Onheleiwa Police Station in the Etayi Constituency of the Omusati region. In his remarks, Shikongo emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring safety and security for all citizens, irrespective of their location.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Shikongo stated that the project reflects their dedication to providing policing services closer to the people, especially in rural areas where access to law enforcement is vital. The construction site was handed over to the contractor in February of the previous year, with the project reaching completion in August 2024.

The newly established police station features a charge office and prefabricated barracks, which include 14 rooms for male officers and 12 rooms for female officers. Additionally, it houses a two-bedroom facility, a kitchen and dining hall, and a water tower with a 10,000-litre capacity.

Shikongo highlighted that the facility is equipped with essential amenities such as a septic tank, electricity, water connections, a security fence, and a steel container for exhibit storage. Moreover, a 4x4 single cab Toyota Hilux vehicle has been allocated for daily operations.

He also called upon Namibian citizens to actively participate in special policing programs like the Women and Men Network and Youth Against Crime to maintain peace and safeguard the facilities for future generations. Omusati region governor Erginus Endjala echoed this sentiment, urging community collaboration with law enforcement to combat rising crime rates.
