Sharqiya Train Collision: Three Fatalities and Scores Injured Near Cairo


Sharqiya Province, Egypt—A devastating train collision in Zagazig City, Sharqiya Province, claimed the lives of three individuals and injured 49 others this Saturday, intensifying concerns about railway safety in the region. The incident, occurring just north of Egypt’s capital, Cairo, prompted a swift emergency response with extensive medical and rescue operations underway.



According to Namibia Press Agency, Egypt’s Ministry of Health has detailed the conditions of the injured, reporting that 44 are in stable condition and expected to be discharged soon. However, five individuals remain in critical condition and are under close medical supervision. Initially, the Ministry dispatched 39 ambulances to the scene to assist in evacuating the injured.



Hazem al-Ashmouny, the Governor of Sharqiya Province, spoke to Egypt’s local Extra News TV channel, confirming that all passengers had been evacuated from the trains. He outlined ongoing efforts to clear the tracks and restore train service on the affected railway line as quickly as possible. Further, Egypt’s National Railway Authority has announced the formation of a committee of railway specialists tasked with investigating the technical causes of the collision, aiming to prevent such accidents in the future.
