Nairobi: Shabana FC, the Kisii-based football club, has solidified its squad for the 2025/2026 FKF Premier League season by signing 14 new players. The club revealed these new additions during an event known as Shabana Day, which took place at Gusii Stadium, drawing hundreds of fans eager to witness the unveiling. The team simultaneously announced the release of 18 players from last season, in which Shabana finished 5th with 53 points.
According to Kenya News Agency, the new signings include midfielders Byron Otieno and David Odoyo from Kariobangi Sharks and Tusker FC, respectively, Ugandan winger Bronson Nsubuga from Maroons FC, as well as Wycliffe Omondi from Nairobi City Stars. Forward Humphrey Obino from Murang'a Seal is also among the notable additions. These changes are part of the club's strategy to enhance their performance in the league.
In preparation for the upcoming season, Shabana also competed in a pre-season friendly against Tanzania's Pamba Jiji FC. The match concluded with a penalty shootout victory for the visitors following a 2-2 draw in regulation time. The game started with early goals from both teams, with Brian Michira scoring for Shabana in the 2nd minute and Phavan Siwa equalizing for Pamba Jiji FC in the 4th minute. Pamba Jiji took the lead in the second half with a penalty converted by Peter Ruasa, but an own goal by the visitors in the 89th minute brought the match level, leading to the decisive penalties.
Shabana's Head Coach, Peter Okidi, expressed optimism about the team's prospects, stating that the players are well-prepared to compete for the FKF Premier League title and the Mozzart Bet Cup. Okidi emphasized the strong support from the club's management and technical bench as pivotal to their aspirations. Pamba Jiji's Head Coach, Francis Barraza, commended Shabana for hosting the friendly, highlighting its importance in assessing the team's readiness before the season starts. Shabana's campaign kicks off with a home game against APS Bomet on September 21.
