Gusii: Gusii-based FKF Premier League side Shabana suffered a narrow defeat after they lost 1-0 to Gor Mahia in a tense match at Gusii stadium on Sunday. The match was delayed by 45 minutes due to clashes between fans from both teams earlier in the day, resulting in at least 52 people being injured and taken to various hospitals in Kisii town.
According to Kenya News Agency, both teams settled well into the game during the first half, with the score remaining 0-0 as they headed into the halftime break. The second half saw Gor Mahia aggressively searching for a breakthrough, which finally came in the 79th minute when Sylvester Owino’s header put Kogalo ahead, securing the three points for the visitors.
The victory for Gor Mahia solidified their position in second place in the league standings with 53 points, just two points behind the league leaders, Police FC, who have 55 points. Meanwhile, Shabana is set to face Bidco United in their next match at Gusii stadium this coming Saturday.
