Sh50 Million Modern Market Under Construction to Enhance Trade in Tindiret

Nairobi: The State Department for Housing and Urban Development, under the Economic Stimulus Programme, is spearheading the construction of a Sh50 million modern market in the Maraba area of Tindiret Sub County, Nandi County. The project aims to boost the local economy by transforming the area into a commercial hub, accommodating around 200 traders and connecting Maraba to larger markets in Kisumu, Uasin Gishu, and Kericho counties.

According to Kenya News Agency, the project is currently underway and has a completion timeline of six months, starting from July 2025. Project Engineer Allan Kimtai has outlined that the market will be equipped with modern amenities including cold rooms for the preservation of perishable goods, Information Communication Technology (ICT) hubs for digital operations, administrative office spaces, and mother lactating rooms. Additional facilities will consist of a reliable water supply, ablution blocks, garbage receptacles, and electricity connections.

Kimtai emphasized that these facilities are designed to enhance the trading environment by improving comfort, hygiene, and productivity. The inclusion of electricity and structured waste management systems is intended to create a safer and more conducive atmosphere for both traders and customers.

The Maraba modern market project is in line with the government's strategic efforts to stimulate economic growth in Tindiret Sub County by reinforcing trade infrastructure and encouraging a dynamic business environment.
